Top Ten Books I Read In 2013

Monday, December 30, 2013
Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful people of Broke and Bookish
This week's topic: Top Ten Books I Read In 2013

Books are not in any order and are all 2013 releases.

1. Golden by Jessi Kirby
The main character is one of the most relatable characters I've read so far.

2. Champion by Marie Lu (Legend #3)
THIS is how you end a book. Champion was the perfect ending to a fantastic series. ALL the stars to Marie Lu.

3. Crash Into You by Katie McGarry (Pushing the Limits #3)
I'm just too emotionally attached to all of these characters and their stories, and the wait for the final book is killing me.

This book definitely lived up to all the hype.

5. Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller
I will read anything from Trish Doller, and this did not disappoint.
6. The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey (The Fifth Wave #1)
I put off reading this book for a while because of the hype and the fact that it's a sci-fy, but I have to admit that I loved it. This is a great start to a series.

7. Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo (The Grisha #2)
This series just gets better and better.

8. Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas (Throne of Glass #2)
I wasn't a huge fan of the first book, but after reading this I'm now in love with the series.

9. The Enchanter Heir by Cinda Williams Chima (The Heir Chronicles #4)
Was anyone as excited as I was when Chima announced the additional three books to the series?

10. Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken (The Darkest Minds #2)
This year was just a win for second books in a series.

Honorable Mentions
(books that aren't published this year)
11. Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys
I've been picking this up for years and can't believe it took me this long to read it. Thank goodness to Chloe from YA Booklover by making me read this.

12. The Winner's Curse by Marie Rutkoski (March 4, 2014)
Get excited, people. Be on the lookout for this book in 2014.

13. Cress by Marissa Meyer (The Lunar Chronicles #3 | February 4, 2014)
I was really impressed by how Marissa weaved in Repunzel's story.

What are YOUR top ten books you've read this year?

  1. We have three of the same books on our lists! I also loved Golden, Where the Stars Still Shine, and This Song Will Save Your Life. Between Shades of Grey made my list when it originally released.

  2. Ugh, CROWN OF MIDNIGHT, I'm still in a bit of a book hangover from that one. And yes, CRESS, that book was EXCELLENT. Great list, and Happy New Year!

  5. Golden and This Song Will Save Your Life are on my best of 2013 list too. Parker Frost is so incredibly relatable—I need to learn a lesson from her and do something memorable with my wild and precious life. The Winners Curse intrigues me with its unique premise, so I'm glad to see that you loved it!

  6. Eeep, looks like we have a lot of the same favorites this year, Vy!! =) I TOTALLY 100% agree about Champion. THAT is how it's done. Sure, she shattered all my feels, but she also helped me pick them up. *wipes tears* Also, YES to Never Fade. Love, love, love. Alexandra Bracken is made of win. I am DYING for that third book, although I know it's going to be a seriously painful read. I'm also really emotionally attatched to all the characters in Crash Into You! I never want the series to end! *clings* I won The Fifth Wave in a giveaway a couple months ago, yet I STILL haven't read it, ugh. It's going to be top priority in 2014! Also, I am SO glad you finally read Between Shades of Gray. That was such a gorgeous book, it's unbelievable. You have made me even MORE excited for The Winner's Curse. I loved her other book, and not only is that cover gorgeous, but I haven't heard a single bad thing about it yet. And of course, CRESS. ALL THE LOVE.

AWESOME list, Vy! You really made me break out the exclamation points and the Caps! ;) <3 I hope 2014 brings you even MORE ah-mazing reads. And of course, more interactions with me on Twitter! We have to go for 1,000!! ;)

  7. I keep seeing a lot of these books on other people's lists... and I haven't read any of them! I guess there are some books I'll have to check out in 2014.

  8. These are such awesome ones to add! The only ones I've read are This Song Will Save Your Life (seriously wrecked me; it hit home in a lot of ways) and Siege and Storm. I haven't read Katie McGarry's series but it's on my 2014 TBR challenge list, so I'll definitely get to it! I'll probably read it just before the new book comes out, which will be even better.

I didn't do this TTT because when I sat down and thought about it, I had an overwhelming amount of books that I wanted to add and just couldn't do it. So I'm just going to wait until next Tuesday. :P I really love your list, though! You're so lucky you had the chance to read Cress. I'm so excited to read it, but I'm going to be so behind everyone else. *sigh* I know it's going to be awesome tough!

  9. Yay, so many awesome books that you read this year! I've read Golden, although it wasn't as good as I thought everyone else did. I agree though, the characters are very relatable! I read WTSSS (which you know I LOOOVED), and I absolutely loved The 5th Wave and Crown of Midnight. AND I'M SO GLAD YOU READ BETWEEN SHADES OF GREY. I'm dying to read The Winner's Curse, so happy to see it's a favorite! :) Fantastic list, Vy!
