Mini-Reviews: Spring Break Reads

Saturday, April 6, 2013
It's been a while hasn't it? The last time I posted, not counting the recent blog tour post, was in February! Since I took a month off of blogging, my blog posting skills are a bit rusty. I take a small break and it's as if I forgot how to blog.

For now I'm just going to compile "mini" reviews, although these barely pass as mini reviews and are more like snippets of full reviews to come, of the books I read during Spring Break. This will most definitely help me get back into the swing of things. I didn't include the books' summaries to keep this short and simple, but clicking the goodreads button will take you right to them.

St. Martin's Press, 325 pages
Release Date: February 26, 2013

How do I even with this book? I love Eleanor and Park so much, and am more than glad that I decided to pick it up. I loved the writing, the characters, the plot, and just everything. I had my doubts when I saw all the hype, but I highly recommend this to everyone.

A fabulous read.

Dare You To by Katie McGarry

Harlequin Teen, 462 pages
Series: Pushing The Limits #2
Expected Release Date: June 7, 2013

How could I love a story without Echo and Noah? But I was quickly proven wrong with the stories of Beth and Ryan. Beth's story was beautifully crafted and full of heartache. Katie McGarry does not disappoint!

Bantam - Random House, 352 pages
Series: The Sweetest Dark #1

I wasn't sure what to expect when going into reading The Sweetest Dark. All I knew was that it's set during World War I and consists of dragons. It's been a while since I've last read a dragon book, and was more than excited. It was an enjoyable read with its different take on dragons.

Unravel Me was one of my most anticipated books of 2013, and I couldn't believe I waited until now to read it. Tahereh Mafi is a genius, and I could read her writing all day. The plot for Unravel Me was crazy, and of chapter 62 ;).

Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

Sourcebooks Fire, 281 pages
Series: Hundred Oaks #1
Release Date: December 1, 2011

Catching Jordan was recommended to me by a few bloggers, and I finally gave in and read it. It was a fun and quick read with an entertaining plot. My only problem was that I couldn't connect and feel anything for the characters.

I ended up reading a lot more than I thought I would during break. Sometimes I wonder when I have the time to read because I don't remember having that much free time during break.
What did you read or are planning to read during this lovely spring?

  1. Girl, you are like a reading machine! I wish I read that much during spring break. Alas, I spent a lot of time working on my blog and stuff like that, which isn't really a bad thing. But yes, you read so many fabulous things! I'm going to force my dad to buy me Eleanor & Park for me on my Kindle, since I've heard such rave things about it. I'm so glad that you loved Dare You To!! I was worried that it wouldn't be as good as the first book, but I'm glad to see that you loved it just as much! And Unravel Me. Chapter 62. I've heard so much about it, and I really want to see what all this hype is about, goodness.

Lovely mini-reviews, Vy, and I can't wait to see your full reviews for some of these! I'm glad you're getting back into the swing of things. <3

  2. A lot of reading going on during spring break for you. I'm very excited about the Clockwork series. Some of the books are on a special deal in kindle format on Amazon. I may have to buy some of them.

  3. Vy, you had a SUPER good reading week during spring break! AND WHAT THE HECK, I'M JELLY. 7 books in 7 days?! I can't do that.. I just can't. YOU READ TOO FAST FOR YER OWN GOOD. I seriously need to read Eleanor & Park. Like everyone has read it but me. And don't even get me started on the Infernal Devices series.. I still need to read the Mortal instruments. *hides* I KNOW I promised you I would read it over winter break.. yeah, that didn't happen. LOL. Oooh Dare You To! I loved Pushing the Limits, so I need to read this one ASAP. I'm glad to see you enjoyed The Sweetest Dark! I haven't read a dragon book in foreverrrr either. AND UNRAVEL ME. I WILL read Shatter Me this month. Pinky swear. Aww, sad face for not being able to connect with the characters in Catching Jordan. :( I still want to read it though, it looks cute!

I love these mini-reviews, Vy! I'm excited to see your full review of Dare You To!

  4. yes yes yes to Eleanor & Park! I have to say, it is one of those hyped books that need EVEN MORE HYPE!!! I loved it and I also loved Unnravel Me!! :D

  5. Lol, jealous of your reading speed! And sadly, my spring break is only 2 days long. I have read The Sweetest Dark, Unravel Me, and also Catching Jordan!( I enjoyed all of them) I have read the Mortal Instruments series, but not the Infernal Devices. I'm scared it might disappoint me, even though it has alot of positive reviews! Anyways, hope you have many more awesome reads :)

  6. Holy cow! There are some Epic books here. The Sweetest Dark was one I read AGES ago (seriously, it was like a year before it released) and I'm so jealous you got the next one! I'm DYING to read it!
It's too bad you didn't connect more with Catching Jordan. I think I connected more with those characters then the ones from the next book.
Loved Eleanor and Park and Unravel Me too! And Clockwork Princess was also amazing. Great reviews!
