In My Mailbox (21) - Vlog

Saturday, September 3, 2011

In My Mailbox is a meme hosted by Kristi from The Story Siren and inspired by Alea from Pop Culture Junkie. It gives bloggers a chance to share all the books we bought, borrowed, and received this week.

Titles that are linked go to goodreads and covers that are shown on my iTouch are eBooks.

Unfortunately school is starting on Tuesday which is my lame excuse for not blogging lately. It will be my freshman year in high school which is pretty nerve-wracking but pretty awesome at the the same time. After I try to settle into my new school things will start to get better, hopefully.

Library:
Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) by Sarah Mylanowski (read)
Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles (read)
It's Not Summer Without You by Jenny Han

Bought:
Hourglass by Myra McEntire (read)

This week's question:
What NOT to do when you're a high school freshman?
Leave answer with your comment please :)

  2. I've only read Hourglass from these - and I loved it - but I really hope to check out the others at some point. Great haul!

Good luck with high school! I can't say I have too much advice since I didn't go to a traditional school, but I hope you have a great experience. Have fun! :D

  5. Haha I really want to read Pefect Chemistry now :P
Ah high school. You'll have fun you really will. I'd say don't be too shy but you don't seem that way! Join clubs or groups too, it's super fun and a great way to hang out with friends and meet other people too. And don't worry! After the first week, the first day even, you'll feel right at home. Same thing with university.
    Good luck :D

  6. Lol, honestly, just have fun at high school. It seriously is one of the funnest parts of school. But freshman year is pretty stressful, so here's all the stuff I wish I knew when I was a freshman. (It would have made life so much easier, lol.)
*warning, this will probably be a long post*

DON'T slack off. Trust me DON'T DO IT. Freshman year is by far your easiest. Get your GPA as high as you can, because sophomore year is going to be the hardest of your 4 years. I don't know why, but it just is. Junior year by comparison has been a piece of cake, and senior year, according to my friends, is mostly just electives if you get all your required courses done as soon as you can.

Definitely don't have a huge backpack. At my school we call it 'Freshman Backpack Syndrome'. It never fails that the freshman always show up with backpacks that are bigger than them! My advice is to just get a cute messenger bag and always carry your textbooks in your hand. Folders/binders, ect. should go in your bag.

Don't stand in the middle of the hallway talking to your friends. BAD IDEA. Usually, the older kids will get really peeved off and shove you out of the way. If you have to talk, move to the side.

And yeah, like Laura said, don't be shy. Freshman year is THE year for you to get involved in as many things as you can. If you're interested in something, try it. It's usually harder to get into a club the older you are.

So I guess that's it! Have fun in high school! :)

  7. Aww, Vy! I love Perfect Chemistry! And yes, maybe the end is a bit cheesy but come'on didn't you just eat it up? I heart that book!

So... I think Ashley covered it all as far as what NOT to do. Don't slack off, seriously... save that for senior year! Really just have fun and get involved. If things ever get tough socially, just remember that there is life after High School! HS is NOT the be all end all. TRUST ME.

  8. Hourglass and Ten Things, SO good! Glad you got them and enjoyed them too!

Man, it's been so long since my freshman year... it's hard to remember. I do encourage you to get as many required classes out of the way but don't overload yourself. And I'm not sure what the PE requirement is in your school (it was required for us as freshman) but if it's not required then I would save it for second semester or sophomore year if you can. There's enough things to worry about and if your like me PE is just something else that has potential for some serious embarrassment. Of course you probably already chose all your classes, so it's probably too late for that bit.
I wish I could go back to being in high school... sigh... the good ol' days...

  10. Perfect Chemistry is AMAZING. I loved it, it's definitely a favourite of mine. Rules of Attraction isn't as good, but it's still a fun read.

As for the question, I'm afraid I can't give you advice because I'm just a lowly freshman myself.

  19. Nice mailbox! Great reads this week! :]

As for being a high school freshman and what not to do.. don't be close minded. If something comes along and you don't know whether or not you'll like it, try it anyway. The best way to see if you like it is to try it! Same goes with making friends! :]

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have a great week!

  21. Hourglass looks really good.

As for the question. it's been 7 years since I've been out, but if I could do it over I would say definitely get involved with clubs, or sports if you like that kind of thing. I was really shy throughout school, and the older I got the harder it was to break out of my shell.

Just enjoy it, and I would say take most the classes you can freshmen and soph year then it gets easier.

  22. All of those books are so so good!! Enjoy! =)

Oh man, grade 9 seems like so long ago... I guess the only advice I can give is don't be shy. I went to a school where I knew almost no one and I was petrified. My grade 9 year sucked partially because I was too scared to put myself out there.

  24. I loved Perfect Chemistry!

As for high school I can't say much since I didn't attent an american school but one thing is the same everywhere. Don't be shy and just have fun. High school is just high school. :)

  25. Ah boo, school! Never mind, you got some good books to make up for it! Thanks for dropping by my blog, new follower.

  26. Aw, good luck in your new school! What NOT to do? DO NOT WORRY! Really, everything will seem scary and different at first, but before you know it you'll be a pro and it will feel like you've been there your whole life. Just remind yourself of that whenever you feel like a fish out of water :)
