Top Ten Bookish Pet Peeves
(Books, Book Stores, Covers, etc...)
2. When I get a library book that has been trashed.
3. Dog-earing pages
4. Stickers on books. They leave a gross sticky residue after you take them off. (An example from Jamie)
5. Too small of prints in the book.
6. I'm not sure why this bothers me so much but when there are blank pages in the back of the book. I wouldn't mind if it was only 1-2 pages but 3-4 pages is a bit too much. Does anyone know what it's for?
7. I love a good love triangle, but sometimes authors can over due them. Sometimes it's more like a love square or a love polygon.
8. Covers are always a work of art, but sometimes it just doesn't tie into the book.
9. Twilight was a very successful book and I know a lot of people love it but comparing every great book to Twilight is a big peeve. Not every single author who writes about vampires is copying Stephenie Meyer.
10. Sometimes I get disappointed when I read a book that has been hyped and I don't like it. (Does this count as a peeve?)

I don't like it either when the cover doesn't match the story inside. And yes the hype thing is a peeve... :)

confession: i used to dog-ear books. but now it's a pet peeve for me too.
ReplyDeleteand i hate stickers on books too (especially those on the sale book in b&n--they're a pain to take off).
Yes, I agree, sometimes the cover is better or worse than the book...this was on my list!
ReplyDeleteI am still laughing at love-polygons haha. I love good relationship twists but yes there is such a thing as too much. I know a group of friends tends to share (ex: the movie The Romantics) where my friends and I have even swapped after relationships ending, but their usage doesn't always work or feel natural.
ReplyDeleteI hate dog ears too. I hate writing in books. Mainly because if I hate it then it goes on ebay. But recently I bought a stack of post-it notes to make notes while i'm reviewing.
I love your #6 too. I'm going to guess that those extra pages are for notes, but it's not like any of us use them. It's just an excuse to charge a little more change for extra paper :)
New follower of you as well ;)
Dog earing and stickers made my list! I've never thought too much about the blank pages but now that you mention it, there are a lot of novels that have a few at the back and I'm really not sure why.
ReplyDeleteHearing you on the Twilight thing - some Twilight-lovers seem to see this book as groundbreaking or totally defining a new genre and everything containing paranormal romance afterwards is a rip off, even when that book was published prior to Twilight!
I definitely get irritated by extra pages- I'm guessing they're there because of the way the paper is folded or something? But honestly, I don't know... that's something to think about now!
ReplyDeleteCheck out my pet peeves here :) http://devouringtexts.blogspot.com/2011/03/top-ten-tuesday_22.html
I definitely agree with 6 and 9. I'm not a Twilight fan but I've noticed whenever someone moans about a book they'll probably say that some part of it is just like Twilight. It's like YA books never existed before Twilight.

Great choices, I agree, stop and see mine.
ReplyDeleteExactly yes....No. 10 really, really counts. Hypeing is one thing that bores me to the core. I love your thoughts here.
ReplyDeleteGood Ones!

Yes, the tiny writing! It so hard to read. I have no idea why so many books got published like this.
ReplyDelete#9,YES.I hate that so much.Glad someone else gets annoyed by that too.
ReplyDelete3, 4, 5 and 9 get to me too!
ReplyDeleteLove your list of pet peeves. I have a some more. Come see those: Top Ten Picks!
Ugh, I hate when library books are really ratty. Sometimes, they stink, too, and then my fingers smell. Why are people so nasty with books? I used to dog-ear when I was younger, but not anymore. They must look perfect! Same with stickers. If it's a sale sticker, it comes off easily if you remove it right away, but those bargain stickers can be HIDEOUS to get off if the book has been sitting a while. GRR!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder what all the blank pages are for, too! It just costs the publisher money...
I have a love triangle in one of my WIPs, but I'm trying to do it in a way that isn't so...stereotypical. Or obvious. While I loved Matched by Ally Condie, the "triangle" wasn't nearly so captivating...
I'm always sad when a book doesn't live up to its hype, too! I've built up my expectations way too high and reality can never be met. LAtely, this has happened a lot with Jodi Picoult books...
